New Delhi: On Sunday, Petrol and diesel prices continued an upward trend. After today's (February 24) price revision, petrol prices went up by 6-7 paise, while diesel price also went up by 7-8 paise across major cities in the country. In national capital Delhi, petrol prices went up to Rs 71.43 a litre against Rs 71.35 on Saturday while diesel price went up to Rs 66.64 per litre compared to Rs 66.55 yesterday.

In trend of prices increase among all metros and most state capitals, petrol and diesel prices in Delhi are the cheapest due to lower taxes. In the country's economic capital Mumbai, petrol on Sunday is retailing at Rs 77.06, up from yesterday’s Rs 76.99. Diesel price in the city went up to Rs 69.80 from Saturday's Rs 69.71 per litre.
In Chennai, while petrol price went up from yesterday's Rs 74.08 to Rs 74.17 per litre today, diesel price witnessed a nine paise hike and it is now retailing at Rs 70.43 per litre. Petrol price in Kolkata was hiked to Rs 73.52 per litre from Saturday's Rs 73.45 rate. Diesel price also went up in the city and it was selling at Rs 68.43 compared to Rs 68.34 yesterday. In Gurugram, petrol price witnessed went up from yesterday's Rs 71.86 to Rs 71.90 per litre. Diesel price, on the other hand, went from Rs 66.03 yesterday to Rs 65.86 on Sunday. Petrol in Noida became cheaper from Rs 71.14 to Rs 71.08 per litre, while diesel price went down three paise to Rs 66.73.

In term of international oil prices it is worth mentioning here that in the international oil market, crude prices went up by about 5 per cent this week. Oil prices touched three-month high on Friday. The rise was supported by high hopes of the United States and China reaching the end of their trade war.
