New Delhi: On Wednesday (March 6), After six consecutive days of price hike, state-run oil marketing companies kept retail petrol prices stagnant while diesel prices also remained unchanged across the major cities. In national capital Delhi, petrol is being sold for Rs 72.24 per litre while diesel costs Rs 67.64 a litre, no change compared to Tuesday’s price.

However, it may be noted that retail fuel prices were raised on Tuesday and petrol became costlier by 7 paise across major cities of the country while diesel prices went up by 10-11 paise per litre. In Kolkata, citizens have to shell out Rs 74.33 for a litre of petrol while diesel costs Rs 69.43 per litre, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website. Similarly, in Chennai, petrol costs Rs 75.02 per litre and diesel costs Rs 71.49 per litre, no change in prices compared with yesterday’s rates. In Mumbai, petrol is retailing at Rs 77.87 per litre and diesel can be availed at Rs 70.86 a litre, no rate revision as against Tuesday’s price. In Noida also, petrol price remained unchanged at Rs 71.75 and diesel price stood at Rs 66.586. In Gurugram, petrol, diesel prices remained stable at Rs 72.37 and Rs 66.76 respectively.

It may be noted that due to the daily dynamic pricing regime, retail petrol and diesel prices depend on global crude prices on a 15-day average, and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as the country imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. In the international oil market, crude prices dropped nearly 1 per cent on Wednesday. International Brent crude futures were at trading USD 65.31 per barrel, down 55 cents, or 0.8 per cent, from their last close.
