New Delhi: State-made oil companies slashed diesel prices by 12 to 15 paise a litre on Tuesday for the sixth consecutive day, while petrol prices have also been cut by eight paise three days later. The demand for crude oil in the month of September is the lowest in the last 4 months. The domestic market has seen a fall in diesel prices since September 3 and has registered a decline of up to Rs 2.28 per litre so far. Petrol has also been cheaper than one rupee per litre this month.
According to Indian Oil, a leading oil marketing sector company, petrol is now 8 paise cheaper in Delhi at 81.06 while diesel is selling 15 paise cheaper at Rs 71.28 per litre. Petrol fell by Rs 87.74 per litre and diesel by 13 paise to Rs 77.74 per litre in Mumbai, the country's economic capital. In Kolkata, petrol is down by Rs 82.59 per litre while diesel is selling at Rs 74.80 per litre.
In Chennai, petrol prices were priced at Rs 84.14 per litre, while diesel was 12 paise to Rs 76.72 per litre. On Friday, the price of petrol was cut from 23 paise to 26 paise and diesel by 35 paise to 37 paise per litre. On Thursday, petrol was 14-16 paise and diesel 19-20 paise cheaper.
