Petrol prices increased, diesel gets cheaper….check rates inside

New Delhi: On Thursday, Retail petrol prices were increased by 6-7 paise across the country while oil marketing companies lowered diesel prices by 5-6 paise. In the national capital Delhi, petrol is sold at Rs 72.48 per litre as compared with Rs 72.41 a litre on Wednesday while diesel is retailing at Rs 67.32 a litre, 5 paise dip from yesterday’s price, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation website. After today’s rate revision, in Mumbai, the retail prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 78.10  a litre and Rs 70.52 a litre respectively. Petrol was sold at Rs 78.04 a litre while the price of diesel was Rs 70.58 per litre in Mumbai on Wednesday.

However, Citizens in Chennai have to pay Rs 75.27 for a litre of petrol, an increase of 7 paise against yesterday’s price. Diesel costs Rs 71.15 a litre, 5 paise dip from yesterday’s price. Similarly, in Kolkata, petrol is retailing at Rs 74.56  while diesel costs Rs 69.11 a litre, 5 paise drop from yesterday’s price. It may be noted that retail fuel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. Since the starting of this year, the retail price of petrol was raised by about Rs 4 a litre and that of diesel by about Rs 5 a litre.

On Thursday, in the international oil market, crude prices peaked to the highest level so far this year amid ongoing supply cuts led by OPEC and by US curbs against Iran and Venezuela. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 67.75 per barrel, up 20 cents or 0.3 per cent from their last close.
