Petrol pumps in Delhi to remain shut today in protest against Kejariwal's refusal to cut VAT on fuel

New Delhi [India], Oct 22 (NT): In what could cause hassle to the Delhiite, all 400 petrol pumps along with linked CNG dispensing units will remain close from 6 am on Monday till 5 am on Tuesday in protest against CM Arvind Kejariwal led Delhi government's negative response to cut Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel and petrol in the national capital.

Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government is facing Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) protest who in a statement, said that the central government had cut the rate of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre each on September 4 and this was followed by a cut of VAT by various states including neighboring Haryana and Uttar Pradesh bringing relief to their residents, But Delhi government turned down to decrease VAT on fuel both petrol and diesel consequential in fuel becoming more costly than bordering Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

On October 22 all the 400 pumps of Delhi will neither buy nor trade Petrol, Diesel and CNG in protest for decrease of VAT on Petrol and Diesel in Delhi.

However, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took on PM Modi led ruling party alleging that the strike was politically motivated and sponsored by the BJP.

"Petrol pump owners have told us privately that this is a BJP-sponsored strike, actively supported by oil companies. In fact, the BJP has thrust it on petrol pump owners. People will give the BJP a befitting reply in the elections for continuously inconveniencing people through their dirty politics," CM Kejriwal tweeted.

Worth mention here On October 4, the central government cut fuel prices by Rs. 2.50 after reduction on excise duty on the commodity by Rs 1.50 per litre and the decision was supported by a number of states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, which reduced local sales tax or the VAT.
