After the Indian Health Ministry have banned 344 fixed dose combination drugs,the Pharma industry said "Its arbitrary and unfair". SV Veerramani (Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association president ) said,“The industry feels let down. We feel we were not given a fair chance.
The government’s order to ban 344 FDCs en bloc is arbitrary and unfair,” He added, The drugs which, worth Rs 5,000 crore have been banned for manufacture, distribution and sale with fast effect causing hardship to manufacturers and patients.
On March 10 2016,In a gazette notification ,the government had banned 344 FDCs, counting chlopheniramine maleate plus codiene syrup which is used in the cough syrups. Veeramani replied when asked about future plan, “We are meeting the government and will ask them to reconsider the ban. It will impact the Make in India campaign.”
