On Sunday, an offshore earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 struck the Philippines' Davao Oriental province.

The quake struck at a depth of 19 kilometres, roughly 98 kilometres southeast of Manay, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

According to the institute, the tectonic quake would create aftershocks but not damage. On Saturday, earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.1 and 5.4 rocked the region. There were no reported damages. Because of its location within the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is defined by active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes, the Philippines experiences frequent seismic waves.
