Philippines scales up 30,552 new COVID-19 cases

Manila-Philippines: On Saturday, the Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 30,552 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the country's total confirmed cases to 3,387,524.

The number of active cases fell to 280,619 on Monday, down from a record 291,618 on Friday. The country's positivity rate increased to 45.1% from 44.1% the previous day.

According to the DOH, 97 more people died as a result of COVID-19 complications, bringing the country's death toll to 53,406.

The Philippines is currently dealing with the fourth wave of infections caused by the Omicron variant's rapid spread. On January 15, the country reported the highest single-day tally with 39,004 new cases.

The country, which has a population of approximately 110 million, has tested more than 24 million people thus far.
