New Delhi: The Philippines on Friday gave the green signal to buy anti-ship missile systems for its Navy from BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd. The deal is worth about USD 37.49 million. Officials of BrahMos have been informed in this regard by the National Defence Department of the Philippines. On January 11 this week, the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

The missile is a joint venture between India and Russia where DRDO represents India. The missile was test-fired from Visakhapatnam INS which is the latest warship of the recently inducted Indian Navy. BrahMos is the main weapon system of Indian Navy warships and has been deployed on almost all surface platforms of the Navy.

An underwater version is also being developed, which will not only be used by Indian submarines but will also be offered for export to friendly countries.
