PhonePe has teamed up with Liquid Group to expand the use of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Singapore, providing greater convenience for Indian travelers. This new partnership allows PhonePe users to make payments at numerous merchants throughout Singapore using their UPI-enabled app.
Travelers can now use their PhonePe app to scan QR codes and make payments at a broad network of Liquid Group merchants. These QR codes will be available at popular tourist spots, including Changi Airport, duty-free shops, and well-known locations like The Cocoa Trees, Charles & Keith, and Hard Rock Café. Payments will be processed in Indian Rupees (INR), ensuring a smooth and transparent transaction experience.
This development is facilitated by Liquid Group's collaboration with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), which supports UPI acceptance at international merchant locations. By scanning the QR code at participating merchants, PhonePe users can complete transactions quickly and easily.
Additionally, this partnership introduces several UPI-based features for Indian travelers and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in Singapore. PhonePe users can receive international remittances via the PayNow-UPI real-time remittance corridor, simplifying money transfers without requiring bank account numbers or IFSC codes. NRIs based in Singapore can also link their NRE/NRO bank accounts to make payments for services in India, such as utility bills and merchant transactions.
