THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, is scheduled to attend the Diaspora meet - Loka Kerala Sabha. He will on Friday land in the city which is shrouded in thick smoke and haze emanating from wildfires in Canada.

The Chief Minister, who arrives on Friday in New York, will visit the 9/11 memorial in addition to the United Nations headquarters.

His participation in the two-day Diaspora celebration begins on Saturday and Sunday, and both of these activities take place in Times Square, which is currently covered in smoke.

The majority of the smoke is coming from Quebec, where 150 fires are burning, and millions of people in North America have been urged to wear N95 masks outside because smoke from Canada's wildfires is blowing across the United States, making the air quality "unhealthy".

Pinarayi Vijayan is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of the state of Kerala. Vijayan began his political career as a student leader and rose through the ranks of the CPI(M) over the years. He held various positions within the party before becoming the Chief Minister of Kerala in May 2016. He won the assembly elections from the Dharmadam constituency in Kannur district.

Under Vijayan's leadership, the government of Kerala has implemented several notable initiatives and policies. The state has achieved significant progress in areas such as healthcare, education, and social welfare. Vijayan's administration has also focused on infrastructure development, including the construction of roads, bridges, and other public facilities.
