Today is the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya Ji, the designer of the Indian National Flag Tricolor.  The same Pingali Venkayya who designed the tricolour. Our national flag is tricolour.  Which is a symbol of our pride and glory. Which has embedded Indian nationalism in itself. Let us know about that Pingali Venkayya, whose imagination gave us our national flag.

Pingali Venkayya was born on August 2, 1876, in a small village in Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.  At the age of only 19, Pingali joined the British Army. But they had to go into the service of the country. In South Africa, Pingali Venkayya met Mahatma Gandhi. He was so impressed with Bapu that he returned to India to stay with him forever. Pingali made a significant contribution to the freedom struggle. Pingali was a language expert and writer. In 1913, he read a long speech in Japanese. Because of these qualities, he got many names. For example, Japan Venkayya, Patti (Cotton) Vekanya and Flag Venkayya. He studied the national flag of 30 countries. Pingali Venkayya continued to research it from 1916 to 1921. Then, he designed the tricolour.  In 1916, he also wrote a book on the design of the Indian flag.  At that time, the tricolour was painted red, which was for the Hindus. Green was kept as a symbol of the Muslim religion and white as a symbol of the rest of the religions.  The charkha was given a place in the middle. In 1921, Mahatma Gandhi allowed the tricolour designed by Pingali Venkayya as the national flag at the Vijayawada session of the Congress.

Mahatma Gandhi wrote about Pingali Venkayya in Young India that 'Pingali Venkayya works at Machilipatnam National College in Andhra Pradesh.  He has researched the flags of many countries and made many designs of the national flag of India.  He has also written a book about it. I appreciate their hard work. In 1931, a resolution to adopt the tricolour was passed. There was some amendment in it. Saffron was given a place in place of the red colour. On July 22, 1947, it was adopted as the national flag in the Constituent Assembly. Shortly thereafter, there was an amendment again and the Ashok Chakra was replaced by the charkha. It is said that Mahatma Gandhi was angry because of the removal of the charkha. Right now, in our tricolour, saffron means prosperity, white means peace and green means progress. Pingali, who gave the tricolour to the same country, died in extreme poverty. In 1963, Pingali Venkayya died while living in a hut. Then, even the memory of Pingali was forgotten by the people. In 2009, for the first time, a postage stamp in the name of Pingali Venkayya was issued. Then people came to know that it was Pingali who gave us our tricolour. After 46 years of his death, he was honoured by the country.
