New Delhi: Piyush Goyal, the minister of commerce and industry, on Monday urged the creation of a comprehensive database of all startups in the nation since it would benefit both the public and commercial sectors.

He said that the database may assist the government in purchasing products and services. Goyal went on to say that there must be numerous startups with varying degrees of success that are not listed in any database.

''Can we have a strong database of all startups in the country...Let us  go for a database and make that available for all,'' he said.

To promote ease of doing business in the country, the minister also requested opinions from the startup community on how to further reduce regulatory load and simplify processes.

''I am certain there are many more areas where we can reduce the burden of processes for all of you,'' he said here at the National Startup Awards function.

Speaking of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), he said that it is a protocol similar to the Unified Payments Interface that aims to democratise e-commerce by integrating millions of local small companies.

Goyal added that ONDC would support the promotion of mom-and-pop shops.
