Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday, preventing the champions from cutting Arsenal's Premier League advantage to two points. Harry Kane's game-winning goal was a Premier League first.

Kane passed former great Jimmy Greaves, whose record had lasted since 1970, to become the north London club's all-time leading scorer with 267 goals after punishing some sloppy City play with an effort in the 15th minute.

Kane passed former great Jimmy Greaves, whose record had lasted since 1970, to become the north London club's all-time leading scorer with 267 goals after punishing some sloppy City play with an effort in the 15th minute.
Even the supporters of Tottenham's bitter rivals Arsenal would have cheered the goal down Seven Sisters Road as it allowed Mikel Arteta's team to maintain a five-point lead over champions City despite their shocking defeat at Everton on Saturday.

Tottenham stayed strong despite Cristian Romero's late red card to increase their own chances of finishing in the top four. Tottenham had led City by two goals at halftime just a few weeks prior, only to succumb and lose 4-2.
The closest City came to scoring was a Riyad Mahrez attempt that crashed against the underside of the crossbar in first-half stoppage time with Erling Haaland restrained.

Then, Tottenham held off a late City assault with some tenacious defence to secure a third victory over Pep Guardiola's team in four league games.

With 45 points from 21 games, City is still in second place behind Arsenal, who has 50 points from one fewer game. The two teams will meet on February 15 in north London.

Tottenham is in fifth place with 39 points from 22 games, one point behind Newcastle United, even though manager Antonio Conte was not present due to surgery to remove his gallbladder.

When City botched their attempt to play out from the back, Kane's chance presented itself. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg snatched the ball from Rico Lewis on the outskirts of the box, resisted a challenge, and flicked it to Kane.

Although the England striker's right-foot drive was not his best effort, it managed to slip past Ederson and into the corner, making Kane the third player in Premier League history to reach 200 goals.

Fans sang "Harry you're one of own" to Harry Kane as he was being interviewed on the field following the game's conclusion, a reference to the fact that Kane joined the team when he was just 11 years old.
