New Delhi: SpiceJet's Hyderabad-Belgaum flight landed at the wrong end of the runway at Belgaum airport in Karnataka on Sunday, after which pilots were suspended. The airline informed in this regard on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday, though the plane landed safely on the runway. Authorities have taken a tough stand on the lapse, as the crew had not reported it allegedly.

The airline spokesperson said in a statement, 'SpiceJet flight DASH8 Q400 was scheduled to fly from Hyderabad to Belgaum on October 24. ATC allowed the plane to land on runway 26 in Belgaum. The plane landed on runway eight.' This means that the plane landed at the other end of the runway 8 instead of runway 26 mentioned on the same runway at Belgaum airport.

A SpiceJet spokesperson informed that the aircraft landed safely and the airline acted "promptly and proactively" on receiving information. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) were informed in this regard and both pilots were immediately suspended due to pending investigation.
