Plantation drive in Assam gets inaugurated by CM Sonowal

Developments in Assam are taking at a faster pace. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who was in Majuli on Sunday got engaged in a plantation drive under Carbon Neutrality Project at Kamalabari Ghat in the district. The Carbon Neutrality Project in Majuli is first of its kind in the county and is believed to be an essential step towards a zero-carbon district that is being given shape under an optional grant by the Assam chief minister for 2019-20. Under the project, a total of 1,100 different saplings have been planted.

Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Sonowal, while complimenting the people of Majuli on getting the plants of different species, demanded them to spread their service for making the project a success. He also said the success of the project will also be crucial for achieving zero carbon status of Majuli. Sonowal also visited the erosion-affected areas of Kamalabari Ghat and took stock of erosion reduction and protection works of the district administration. To get an exact picture of the erosion protection work, Sonowal walked a long distance on the bank of the Brahmaputra.

The CM of Assam also took stock of the construction of a cricket stadium in Majuli, which is being constructed under the aegis of the Assam Cricket Association. ACA president Ramen Dutta was also there on the occasion. It is expected that once completed the cricket talents of Majuli would get state of the art infrastructure to hone their cricketing acumen. Sonowal also made a visit to a retail outlet of women SHG products in Majuli. The exhibition-cum-sale has been organized under Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission.
