PM Internship Scheme: Over 13,000 internships have been posted on the Prime Minister's Internship portal as of Monday, with major companies like Jubilant FoodWorks, Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Tech Mahindra leading the charge, an official revealed.

Launched on October 3, the internship program was announced in the Union Budget for FY25. Interns will receive monthly financial assistance of Rs.5,000, along with a one-time payment of Rs.6,000, partially funded by the government.

Companies have the option to cover training costs and contribute Rs.500 per intern from their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds towards the monthly stipend.

The internships cover sectors such as banking, financial services, oil and energy, FMCG, manufacturing, and travel and hospitality, according to the source. Available roles include sales and marketing, production, manufacturing, and operations management.

Internships are currently being offered across 179 districts in 30 states and union territories.

The government will open the portal 'pminternship.mca.gov.in' for unemployed youth aged 21-24 on October 12. A toll-free helpline is also available to assist applicants.

This one-year internship initiative aims to address skill gaps in young people, provide practical business experience, and improve employability. It is also part of the government's strategy to leverage India's demographic advantage by fostering a larger, skilled workforce.

Eligible candidates include those who have completed high school, possess certificates from industrial training institutes, or hold diplomas from polytechnic institutes. Graduates in fields like arts, science, commerce, pharmacy, and business administration can also apply.

However, graduates from premier institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, National Law Universities, and professionals such as chartered accountants and MBBS holders are not eligible.

The program primarily targets individuals from economically weaker sections. Those with a collective family income exceeding ₹8 lakh in 2023-24 or with family members employed in permanent government jobs are ineligible to apply.
