NEW DELHI: The seven mega textile parks under the Rs.4,445 billion PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM Mitra) initiative would be set up in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, the union government declared on Friday.

After being mentioned in the Union Budget for 2021–2022, the Ministry of Textiles notified the setting up of the textile parks on October 21, 2021. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, and Rajasthan were among the states that had expressed interest.

Prior to opposition over environmental concerns, Punjab had proposed a park near the Mattewara forest in Ludhiana.
"PM MITRA mega textile parks will support the 5F (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign) goal by boosting the textile industry. I'm happy to announce that Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP, and UP will all receive PM MITRA mega textile parks "On Friday, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, said on social media.

The Pradhan Mantri MITRA mega textile parks will offer state-of-the-art infrastructure for the textiles sector, attract investment of crores and create lakhs of employment,"  Prime Ministetr Narendra Modi added.
India's exporters of textiles and clothing argue that a largely disjointed supply chain and greater logistics expenses drive up the cost of production, which is one reason why export orders have slowly shifted to nations like Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Notably, these mega parks could help return textile orders as a result of a planned integrated textiles value chain (including spinning, weaving and processing) at a single location.
