New Delhi: On this day in 1948, Bapu fell to the bullets of a fanatic while he was coming out of a prayer.30th January is observed as the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi.

Nation remembers the apostle of peace by remembering his message of truth and non-violence even when faced with gravest of provocation.

A prayer meeting will be held in Bapu's memorial,  Rajghat, in the national capital to offer tributes to the Father of the Nation.

President Ram Nath Kovind paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and on his twitor handle Indian Prez tweeted: "On Martyrs' Day, we gratefully remember Mahatma Gandhi and the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their all for our Independence."

In his another English- Hindi tweet PM Modi paid tribute to the father of the nation “Remembering Bapu on his Punya Tithi”, PM tweeted.

BJP president Amit Shah Also on his twitor handle paid tribute to Bapu to share a pic.
