The death of longest-serving Bishop of the country, Philipose Mar Chrysostom of Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian church, shook India. Metropolitan passed away at Kumbanad Fellowship Hospital on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed anguish at the death of Philipose Mar Chrysostom, former head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church and the longest-serving bishop in India, and said he will be remembered for his rich theological knowledge and many efforts to remove human suffering.
“Saddened by the demise of His Grace The Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan. He will be remembered for his rich theological knowledge and many efforts to remove human suffering. Condolences to the members of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church” PM Modi noted.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi also condoled the death of Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan, the emeritus Metropolitan of the Malankara Marthoma Syrian Church.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, the Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP from Kerala's Wayanad, noted: - "My heartfelt condolences for the passing of His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan Thirumeni. His kindness received love and affection from all communities. He will be fondly remembered."
The 104-year-old Metropolitan was the senior-most metropolitan of any Christian denomination in the world and the country had honoured him with Padma Bhushan award in 2018.
