NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Monday late night, reaffirming their commitment to a strong and trusted partnership between India and the United States.
During the call, Prime Minister Modi congratulated President Donald Trump on beginning his second term in office and described him as “my dear friend.” Modi expressed confidence that India and the US would work together to ensure global peace, prosperity, and security.

This was the first conversation between the two leaders following Trump’s second-term inauguration on January 20. At the event, External Affairs Minister of Indai Dr. S. Jaishankar, represented prime Minsiter Narendra Modi as his special envoy. Dr. Jaishankar also delivered a personal letter from the Prime Minister to the newly sworn-in President.
The United States remains India’s largest trading partner, with two-way trade surpassing US dollar 118 billion during 2023-24. India recorded a trade surplus of $32 billion in the same period. Strengthening trade ties and easing visa processes for skilled Indian workers remain top priorities for both nations as they deepen their strategic partnership.
India and the US continue to work closely on countering global challenges, including China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
