Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Germany on Monday for the first leg of his three-nation European tour, during which he will hold detailed bilateral talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and co-chair the India-Germany inter-governmental consultations as the two countries seek to strengthen their ties.

"I reached Berlin. I will be meeting with Chancellor @OlafScholz, meeting with business leaders, and speaking at a community event today. I am confident that this visit would strengthen India-Germany relations "Soon after his arrival, Modi sent out tweets in both English and German. "Despite the fact that it was early morning in Berlin, several members of the Indian community came by. It was a pleasure to speak with them. In another tweet, Modi added, "India is proud of our diaspora's accomplishments."

This will be Prime Minister Modi's first encounter with Olaf, who took office as German Chancellor in December 2021. The 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations will be co-chaired by Modi and Olaf (IGC).

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting will include Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.  According to the statement, the 6th IGC would deepen the strategic connection between India and Germany.
Modi's visit to Germany is his fifth since becoming Prime Minister. In April 2018, July 2017, May 2017, and April 2015, he visited Germany. Modi stated in his departure statement that his trip to Berlin will provide him an opportunity to have in-depth bilateral talks with Chancellor Scholz, whom he met at the G20 last year in his previous role as Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister.
