Ranchi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Jharkhand on the occasion of the 'Karam Puja' festival, a celebration dedicated to worshipping nature. Upon arriving at Ranchi airport today, he was greeted with a 'Jahwa,' a traditional symbol of the Karam festival, presented by a local woman.

Addressing a gathering in Jamshedpur, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the festival, noting that women pray for the well-being of their brothers during Karam Puja. "This morning, when I reached Ranchi airport, a sister welcomed me with a 'jahwa' on the occasion of the Karam festival. On this festival, sisters pray for the well-being of their brothers. I congratulate the people of Jharkhand on the Karam festival," he said.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone and dedicated several railway projects worth over Rs 660 crore. These projects include the foundation stone for the Madhupur By-pass line in Deoghar district and the Hazaribagh Town Coaching Depot. He also dedicated the Kurkura-Kanaroan doubling project, which is part of the Bondamunda-Ranchi single line section and the Rourkela-Gomoh route via Ranchi, Muri, and Chandrapura stations.

The Karam festival, observed on the eleventh of the lunar month of Bhadra, honors Karam devta, the deity of strength, youth, and vitality. During this festival, young villagers gather in groups to collect wood, fruits, and flowers necessary for the Karam Puja. The celebrations are marked by singing, dancing, and vibrant festivities, reflecting the lively spirit of the Baiga, Oraon, Majhwar, and Binjhwar tribes in Jharkhand.
