PM Modi congratulates Waheeda Rehman on receiving Dadasaheb Phalke Award

In a gesture of recognition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to veteran actress Waheeda Rehman on being honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her exceptional contribution to Indian cinema.

Expressing his joy on the accomplishment, PM Modi took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, “Delighted that Waheeda Rehman Ji has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. Her journey in Indian cinema has left an indelible mark. A beacon of talent, dedication and grace, she embodies the best of our cinematic heritage. Congratulations to her.”

Waheeda Rehman, upon receiving the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award, expressed her happiness and gratitude towards the government. She mentioned, "I am happy. This is a big award from the government. Anything which is given with love and respect gives more happiness. I want to thank I&B Minister Anurag Thakur for it and other juries for selecting me.”



Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur made the official announcement of Waheeda Rehman being conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award. He conveyed the news through a detailed post on X (formerly known as Twitter), celebrating her outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema.

“I feel an immense sense of happiness and honour in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema,” he shared. He praised her critical acclaim for various roles in Hindi films such as Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi, among others.

Anurag Thakur applauded Waheeda ji's dedication and commitment throughout her 5-decade long career, highlighting her finesse in portraying roles. He also acknowledged her National Film Award for the film Reshma and Shera, along with her Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan recognitions. Thakur concluded by congratulating the veteran star and paying his respects to her significant body of work, which is an integral part of India’s film history.

Waheeda Rehman has etched her name in the annals of Indian cinema with exceptional performances in iconic movies like ‘Guide’, ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’, ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’, and ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’.
