In an anticipated move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially entered the electoral race for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections by filing his nomination papers from Varanasi on May 14. The filing precedes the upcoming final phase of General Elections set for June 1.

Modi, who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Varanasi, is running as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate once again. He has previously secured victories in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Polls.

This time around, Modi faces competition from several opponents including Comedian Shyam Rangeela, representing the Congress party, and Athar Ali Lari from the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP).
