New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bal Gangadhar Tilak, one of the heroes of India's freedom struggle, on his 100th death anniversary on Saturday, saying that his knowledge, courage and the idea of "Swaraj" inspire people. Apart from PM Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Home Minister Amit Shah also remembered Bal Gangadhar Tilak's contribution to the freedom of the country.

PM Modi has also shared a short video of 'Mann Ki Baat' program on social media, in which he mentioned Tilak's efforts to unite people against the British Raj. Modi wrote in tweeting, "India salutes Lokmanya Tilak on his 100th death anniversary. His knowledge, courage, sense of justice, and the idea of Swaraj inspire". Remembering Tilak's actions, PM Modi said how Tilak had instilled confidence in the people and gave the slogan "Swaraj is our birthright and I will take it".

Venkaiah Naidu also paid tribute to Tilak by tweeting. Recalling Tilak's contribution, he wrote that he was one of the main leaders of the Indian freedom struggle. Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweetet, "Lokmanya Tilak ji's study was unlimited, his thoughts, works, and research can reflect his deep thinking. He believed that when the country is in slavery Devotion and salvation and not karma yoga are required. A tribute to the heroic hero on his 100th death anniversary. "
