New Delhi:: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm  greetings to the people of Indiaon the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Thursday.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said, "Greetings to everyone on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan"

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings on the occasion. "Warm wishes to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan," Shah noted.

Earlier on Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, Rakhi is a sign of the sacred bond between a brother and sister, He also said that Raksha Bandhan conveys zest and passion in life in addition to brotherhood among all men.

At his residence and the Chief Sevak Sadan auditorium on the eve of Raksha Bandhan, several women across the state tied rakhi to the chief minister and expressed their wishes for a long life.

"The Rakhi event represents the sacred bond between a brother and a sister. The festival conveys vigour, passion, and fraternity among people. Festivals define who we are. Festivals are crucial to preserving the ancient culture "he said.
