New Delhi: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at Hyderabad House in New Delhi today.

Ministry of External Affairs (EAM) official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a tweet: "The focus of the discussion between the two leaders will be on bolstering bilateral ties, building on the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership and economic ties, and forging closer ties in defence" 

The tweet goes on to read, "PM Narendra Modi welcomes @Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz at Hyderabad House for bilateral talks. The Focus of the talks will be on strengthening bilateral cooperation, building on the Green & Sustainable Development Partnership and economic partnership, & forging closer ties in defence."

The  Leaders will review progress on key outcomes of the 6th IGC held in May 2022. They will also discuss ways to strengthen defence & economic cooperation, enhance talent mobility and widen S&T collaboration.

This is the fourth consecutive time that the two leaders are meeting in the span of a year, emphasizing the mutual commitment to growth of the Indo-German partnership. PM Modi and Scholz will also interact with CEOs and business leaders of both sides.

Olaf Scholz arrived in New Delhi today to begin a trip to India that will last through February 26. Senior government authorities and a powerful corporate delegation are with him.

When in India, Scholz stated the two countries already have "excellent connections" and hoped they will have in-depth discussions about all issues important to the advancement of both countries.

"India and Germany already have positive relations, and I hope that we can further develop them. I hope that we will have in-depth discussions on all issues crucial to the development of our nations and the peace in the globe as a whole "said Scholz.

Scholz made the comments after receiving a formal welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Scholz was welcomed by PM Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Officials and ministries from both countries were met by both leaders.
Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, will meet with Droupadi Murmu during his stay. He will leave on February 26 for Bangalore.

According to a news statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), Scholz's trip to India marks the first solo trip by a German chancellor since the IGC mechanism between the two countries was established in 2011.

According to MEA, Olaf Scholz's visit to India will give both countries the chance to assess the main outcomes of the 6th Inter-Governmental Consultation (IGC), make progress on those outcomes, strengthen security and defence cooperation, work towards closer economic ties, increase the chance for talent mobility, and provide strategic direction for ongoing Science and Technology collaboration.

"The common principles, trust, and understanding that underpin the India-Germany Strategic Partnership. Stronger bilateral relationships have resulted from strong investment and economic links, collaboration in the fields of green and sustainable development, and expanding people-to-people ties "In the news release, the MEA stated. Both countries collaborate closely on multilateral and international forums as well.
