After Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat has banned the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ambitious project Padmaavat. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, on Friday, said that Padmaavat will not release in Gujarat. Padmaavat is scheduled to release on January 25.

Padmaavat, formerly titled Padmavati, perceive severe objection ever since it began filming, from periphery outfits, at first and the censor board soon after. The film was previously was scheduled for December 1, 2017, but its release was postponed due to incomplete paperwork. Padmaavat has now been cleared by the censor board of film certification (CBFC) after adding another 'a' and dropping the letter 'i' in its title.

Rajput groups such as the Karni Sena have staged rampant protests against the film, alleging that the makers distorted history and filmed a dream sequence between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji in spite of Bhansali denying allegations as such, consistently. After CBFC's approval, makers of Padmaavat changed the title of the film on its official handles on social media including Twitter and Instagram. However, Padmaavat's clearance by the CBFC hasn't satisfied the Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh governments, that have banned the film in its respective states.
