Kedarnath: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of redevelopment projects in Kedarnath worth Rs 130 crores on Friday. He unveiled the statue of Adi Shankaracharya at the Kedarnath Temple in Rudraprayag district earlier today. After being destroyed in the Uttarakhand floods of 2013, Adi Shankaracharya's Samadhi was rebuilt.

The Prime Minister prayed and performed 'aarti' at the ancient temple before the inauguration. After offering prayers, he paid obeisance to Lord Shiva and performed a circumambulation of the Kedarnath shrine.

Kedarnath Temple is one of the four ancient pilgrimage sites known as the 'Char Dham,' which also includes Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Badrinath. It is located on the Mandakini river's bank. Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, was built in the eighth century A.D. by Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya. During his visit to the shrine, the Prime Minister will speak at a public rally. His visit comes ahead of the state's 2022 Assembly elections.
