New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi is likely to visit the US at the end of September. However, there is no official confirmation yet about the visit. Media reports quoted sources as saying that preparations are underway for the visit. A source with knowledge of PM Modi's visit said the schedule is yet to be implemented. According to initial plans, it is believed that PM Modi may visit the US on September 23-24.

It may be recalled that PM Modi last visited the US in 2019. He and former US President Donald Trump addressed the overseas Indian community in Houston. PM Modi's visit to the US comes at a time when there is uncertainty about relations with the terror group Taliban, after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. If PM Modi goes to the US, it will be his first personal meeting between him and US President Joe Biden.

PM Modi will attend the high-level annual session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York after his visit to Washington. PM Modi is likely to address this high-level annual session on September 25. India is a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and recently India's one-month chairmanship has ended. Afghanistan, which is facing a political crisis after the Taliban's occupation, could be a key issue in the UN General Assembly session this time.
