nEW dELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday to brief him on a variety of topics, including the situation in Ukraine.

Modi briefed him about the government's attempts to evacuate Indian nationals from the war-torn country under the recently established 'Operation Ganga,' according to government sources. He also informed him that over 1,600 Indian students have been evacuated from Ukraine as of this morning, when the seventh Air India Express flight, which from Budapest (Hungary) at midnight Monday, landed in Mumbai carrying 182 Indians, predominantly students.

Modi also informed him that he has asked officials from the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure suitable provisions for students arriving in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania till they left for India.

In addition to outlining the efforts, the Prime Minister informed the President that four senior Cabinet ministers will be going for neighboring Poland and Hungary. The presence of four top ministers to various nations will revitalise the evacuation efforts, according to reports. Slovakia and Romania will serve as his 'Special Envoys' to oversee the evacuation mission.

He further informed Kovind that, in keeping with India's philosophy of "the world is one family," India will assist persons stranded in Ukraine from neighboring and developing countries. The Prime Minister informed the President that the first consignment of relief supplies to Ukraine to deal with the humanitarian situation on Ukraine's borders will be deployed on Tuesday.
