NEW DELHI:   The prime minister  Narendra Modi, praised the   gutsy show of the Indian contingent which returned with 61 medals from the Commonwealth Games.

The PM described the experience as "relating" and assured the athletes that the entire country was proud of their accomplishments.

In Birmingham, the Indian athletes put up a spectacular performance, winning 61 medals, including 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze.

"The true evaluation of this accomplishment cannot be based solely on the number of medals, as our athletes competed side by side. There may have been a gap of 1 second or 1 centimetre, but we will make up for it, Modi assured the audience.
The golden age of Indian sports is approaching, therefore we won't just sit back and wait. "We have the responsibility of creating a sporting system that is the best in the world, inclusive, diverse, and dynamic." Every talent should be utilised because they are all valuable. India's competitors performed admirably in badminton, wrestling, and weightlifting, but they also excelled in athletics, judo, and lawn bowl, where they won the nation's first-ever medal at the Games.

Not only are we enhancing the sports in which we have excelled, but we are also making a mark in brand-new sports. In hockey, we're attempting to reclaim our legacy," the PM said.

''Since last time, we have won medals in 4 new sports, from lawn bowls to athletics, out performance has been spectacular. This performance will help highen youth's interest in new sports. We have to improve our performance in new sports.'' The Indian team also won a silver in women's T20 cricket which was introduced for the first time at the Commonwealth Games, he said.
