Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi toay, April 25,inaugurated India's first Water Metro that connects ten  islands around Cochin through battery-operated electric hybrid boats for seamless connectivity with the God's on Country.

NOtaobly, Kochi Water Metro, one of its kind project in the world connecting Kochi's islands to the mainland is ready to start the service.

People in and around Kochi, as well as visitors from across the world, will be able to travel safely, affordably, and comfortably thanks to the nation's first water metro service. 

We face several challenges because we are an electric boat for the first time in India. "This boat is different.  But we have received training at Indian Maritime University.. So no issue. At peak times, each boat makes 12 voyages. From one terminal to the next, it takes 20 minutes. We have a capacity of 100 people—96 passengers plus 4 crew members, according to Jayes, the boat's master.

Water Metro will initially operate 8 electric-hybrid boats on the Highcourt-Vypin and Vyttila-Kakkanad portions of its two lines. For the route between the High Court and Vypin, a single-trip ticket will cost Rs 20. The cost of travelling between Vyttila and Kakkanad is Rs 30.

The Kochi Water Metro will also offer weekly, monthly, and quarterly passes in addition to single-journey tickets. Commuters can take advantage of special savings on a variety of trip passes as an introductory offer.

A weekly trip pass with 12 journeys costs Rs 180, while a monthly trip pass with 50 trips that is good for 30 days costs Rs 600. Passengers can take 150 rides with the quarterly pass at a cost of Rs 1500 over the course of 90 days.

Furthher, travellers using Kochi One Cards will be able to ride Kochi Water Metro. Through the Kochi One app, mobile QR tickets could be purchased. The Kochi Water Metro will soon begin sailing with children with special needs.

The inaugural Vande Bharat Express in Kerala, which will run from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod, was launched off earlier in the day by PM Modi. The Prime Minister will also dedicate the rail electrification of the Dindigul-Palani-Palakkad stretch in addition to the Kochi Water Metro.

The Prime Minister will also lay the groundwork for a number of rail projects at the event, including the renovation of the Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Varkala Sivagiri railway stations, the extensive development of the Thiruvananthapuram region, including Nemon and Kochuveli, and the boosting of the sectional speed of the Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur section.
