NEW DELHI: In a heartfelt tribute, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the esteemed founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Recognizing his remarkable contributions, PM Modi emphasized that Mookerjee's ideals and principles continue to serve as an enduring source of inspiration for every generation in the nation.

"On this auspicious occasion of his birth anniversary, I humbly pay my respects to the great nationalist thinker, educator, and visionary, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He devoted his life to the pursuit of a strong and prosperous India. The ideals and principles he championed will forever ignite the spirits of future generations," expressed PM Modi with reverence.

Echoing this sentiment, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed his deep gratitude to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder, recognizing his invaluable contribution to the unity and integrity of the country. "In both Kashmir and Bengal, we remain indebted to Dr. Mookerjee for his immense dedication to the unity and integrity of our nation. His far-sightedness paved the way for India's progress as he laid the foundation of our first industrial policy. Dr. Mookerjee's noble vision and unyielding dedication will continue to guide us," Minister Shah conveyed through a heartfelt tweet, culminating with a heartfelt salute to the esteemed son of the country on his birth anniversary.

Founded in 1951, Bharatiya Jana Sangh serves as the ideological parent organization of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Notably, on April 6, 1950, Dr. Mookerjee resigned from the Cabinet due to the Delhi pact with Likayat Ali Khan, a significant event chronicled on the BJP's official website. Later, on October 21, 1951, in Delhi, Dr. Mookerjee established the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and assumed the role of its first President. However, during a visit to Kashmir in 1953, he was arrested on May 11 and tragically passed away while in detention on June 23, 1953.
