AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers during his address at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation in Ahmedabad. He emphasized the initiatives aimed at bolstering agricultural practices and rural economies across the nation.
"We are fully dedicated to ensuring the welfare of our farmers. The government's efforts, including the construction of over 60,000 Amrit Sarovars nationwide, are geared towards not only benefiting farmers but also strengthening rural economies," PM Modi stated.
Highlighting the focus areas, PM Modi emphasized, "Our aim is to enhance the livelihoods of small-scale farmers, expand animal husbandry opportunities, improve animal health, and promote activities like pisciculture and beekeeping in villages."
The Prime Minister also hailed the pivotal role of women, referring to them as the driving force behind India's thriving dairy sector. "Today, with over eight crore individuals directly engaged in the dairy industry, and a turnover of Rs 10 lakh crore, our country stands as the largest milk producer globally. This success owes much to the empowerment of women," he remarked.
Underlining the government's initiatives for women's economic empowerment, PM Modi highlighted the significant involvement of women in programs like the Mudra Yojana and Self Help Groups, with over 70% of beneficiaries being women.
Further, PM Modi praised the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation's remarkable journey over the past five decades, symbolizing the collective efforts of farmers and the government. He commended the growth of Amul, noting its significance in showcasing the strength of India's dairy sector.
Speaking on the expansion of the dairy industry, PM Modi pointed out the substantial increase in milk production and per capita availability over the last decade, surpassing global growth rates.
Moving forward, PM Modi emphasized the importance of rural development, echoing Mahatma Gandhi's sentiment that the soul of India resides in its villages. He stressed the government's comprehensive approach towards rural upliftment.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also lauded the cooperative efforts in milk production, highlighting the substantial contribution of the dairy sector to Gujarat's economy and the empowerment of women within the industry.
PM Modi's visit also included the inauguration of various development projects in Gujarat, spanning crucial sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and urban development, signaling a concerted effort towards comprehensive growth and prosperity across the state.
