New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday responded to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address in the Lok Sabha, despite interruptions from opposition leaders chanting "Justice for Manipur." The opposition has repeatedly accused PM Modi of remaining silent on the ethnic violence that erupted in Manipur in May last year. The continuous disruptions prompted Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to reprimand the opposition leaders, particularly Rahul Gandhi, for directing members to protest in the Well of the House during the Prime Minister's speech.
Amid the opposition's sloganeering, PM Modi reiterated his "24x7 for 2047" commitment, emphasizing the principle of putting India first in policy and governance. He stated, "Our one and only target is 'nation first', 'India first'. Each of our policies, our decisions, and our work has been on one scale - 'India first'. In the last 10 years, our government has been working with the objective of 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas'. This country has seen the politics of appeasement for a long time, this country has seen a model of governance of appeasement for a long time. We have moved forward with the idea of 'santushtikaran' (satisfaction), not appeasement."
Taking a dig at the opposition, PM Modi remarked that he could understand the "pain of those who lost badly after continuously spreading lies." The Prime Minister highlighted the achievements of his government, particularly its stance on corruption. "When we came to power in 2014, we had said that we will have zero tolerance towards corruption. Corruption had ravaged the country like termites. However, the countrymen have blessed us for our zero-tolerance approach to corruption," he asserted.
PM Modi concluded by promising that in the third term, his government would work with triple the speed, energy, and results, aiming to further serve the people of India.
