NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed admiration for the unwavering dedication and sacrifices of Army personnel on Army Day. He highlighted their role as pillars of strength and resilience in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty.

"On Army Day, we pay tribute to the exceptional courage, steadfast commitment, and sacrifices made by our Army personnel. Their tireless devotion to protecting our nation is a testament to their bravery. They stand as pillars of strength and resilience," remarked Prime Minister Modi.

Army Day, observed annually on January 15, commemorates the appointment of General K M Cariappa as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, later achieving the rank of Field Marshal. The Prime Minister praised the courage and sacrifices of Indian Army personnel, acknowledging their vital contribution to upholding the nation's sovereignty.

President Droupadi Murmu, who serves as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces,  also conveyed her heartfelt wishes to the Indian Army during her speech. "On the occasion of Army Day 2024, I extend warm felicitations to the Indian Army," she stated. Highlighting the crucial role played by the Indian Army in safeguarding the nation, the President praised their professionalism in various situations, including conflicts, counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism operations, as well as responding to national calamities and disasters. President Murmu commended the admirable leadership and selfless dedication demonstrated by the men and women serving in the Indian Army in her message.
