New Delhi: International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) is celebrating Ashada Purnima as Dharma Chakra Day today i.e. Saturday under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. On this day, Mahatma Buddha gave the first sermon to his first five disciples. On this day, Buddhists from all over the world celebrate it every year as the Day of Dharma Chakra. In Hinduism, today is the day to pay respect to the Guru and it is also celebrated as 'Guru Purnima'.

On this occasion, PM Modi addressed the countrymen through video and said that Buddhism teaches people to respect people, honoring the poor, honoring women, honoring peace, and non-violence. Therefore, the learning given by Buddha is relevant even today. PM Modi said that Gautam Buddha in his first sermon in Sarnath and in later days also talked about two things, hope and purpose. They saw a strong link between these two because only hope produces purpose.

PM Modi further said that a fast-paced young mind is bringing solutions to global problems. India has the largest start-up eco-system. I would also urge my young friends to join the ideas of Buddha. They themselves should be inspired by them and show others the way forward.
