New Delhi: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold an online summit on 26 September. He is scheduled to hold this summit with Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday that the summit will give the two leaders an opportunity to comprehensively review the broader structure of bilateral relations.

At the moment it is also expected that the two leaders can discuss issues such as deepening cooperation against terrorism, promoting overall defence, trade relations and implementation of India's development projects in Sri Lanka. The long-running Tamil issue in Sri Lanka can also be talked about in this dialogue. India has been continuously advocating for fulfilling the aspirations of the Tamil community in the nation.

On Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, "The online summit requires both leaders to comprehensively review the broad framework of bilateral relations in the context of the parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka and the time of the two countries." After Rajapaksa's party, Sri Lanka People's Front won a two-thirds majority in the parliamentary elections last month, he has taken over as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
