NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) on August 3, 2024, at 9:30 AM. The event will take place at the National Agricultural Science Centre (NASC) Complex in New Delhi. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister will also address the attendees.
The ICAE, organized by the International Association of Agricultural Economists, will run from August 2 to August 7, 2024. This is the first time in 65 years that the conference is being held in India.
The theme for this year's conference is "Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems." The conference aims to address the urgent need for sustainable agricultural practices amidst global challenges like climate change, resource depletion, rising production costs, and conflicts. It will highlight India's proactive approach in tackling these challenges and its progress in agricultural research and policy.
ICAE 2024 will provide a platform for young researchers and leading professionals to present their findings and connect with peers from around the world. The conference seeks to strengthen collaborations between research institutions and universities, influence policy decisions on both national and international levels, and showcase India's advancements in digital agriculture and sustainable agri-food systems. Approximately 1,000 delegates from 75 countries are expected to attend.
The conference's theme, "Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems," underscores the focus on enhancing global food systems and improving health. Experts will discuss shifting from mere production to creating a resilient food system that addresses issues like malnutrition, hunger, and obesity.
The International Conference of Agricultural Economists was first organized by Leonard Elmhirst in Devon, England, in 1929. Since then, it has become a key platform for agricultural economists and scholars to discuss global agricultural issues. India previously hosted the 10th ICAE in Mysore in 1958.
