MANDI:In a bid to attract young people to the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address almost one lakh youth in Mandi, better known as "Chhoti Kashi," on Saturday.

Modi is expected to speak at public gatherings in Bilaspur and Chamba town at a later time after Mandi. Amit Shah and J.P. Nadda, two BJP leaders, will also make separate trips to the state.

The visit of the Prime Minister to Mandi,  is a source of pride for the locals, the head of the BJP's state unit, Suresh Kashyap said. He siad, "Narendra Modi shows incredible care for the people of Himachal, and the people of Himachal adore him." "Modi-ji has close ties to Himachal and goes door to door." He said that the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha's youth meeting would be a great success and that many workers would attend to hear Modi speak. More than 1 lakh youth will attend the rally, which will give the BJP new life. Twenty young people from each Himachal Pradesh booth will take part in this rally.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, who is personally overseeing preparations for the Yuva Vijay Sankalp rally, expressed delight over Modi's visit and said it demonstrated his goodwill towards the state and its citizens. Prior to his visit, he said, the Prime Minister had approved a Bulk Drug Pharma Park for the state. He said,  the prime minister gave the state a special assistance of Rs 800 crore in addition to authorising development projects worth more than Rs 10,000 crore for the state.

He said that the state government's decision to hold 75 events to honour the state's residents for their contributions over the years to make Himachal Pradesh one of the nation's leading states in terms of development had alarmed opposition leaders. He said that the Congress leaders are having trouble with the BJP government's campaign promise to change tradition.

It is now Himachal Pradesh's turn to disrupt the norm of holding the presidency for a second straight term, he said.

Thakur typically takes advantage of every opportunity to remind the public about Modi's unique bond and love for the people of the state where he spent a short while in charge of the state's affairs in the late 1990s. Thakur is currently on an inauguration spree by travelling to every nook and cranny of the state.

“This tradition of retaining the helm for another term has changed throughout India and now it is the turn of Himachal Pradesh to do so,”  Thakur said. Even Prime Minister Modi became vocal about his emotional attachment and connection with the state in his public appearances, getting sentimental and frequently speaking in the regional dialect. He claims that this connection has had a very positive impact on shaping and giving direction to his life.

On May 31, when his government had been in office for eight years, Modi made his most recent trip to the state to speak to those who had benefited from government programmes. He did so from the historic Ridge, which had served as the British colonial authorities' promenade when Shimla served as their summer capital.

On December 27, 2021, to commemorate the state government's fourth anniversary, he spoke at a rally in Mandi.
According to senior cabinet minister Suresh Bhardwaj, the state and the state governments have been operating on two engines for the past five years, which has increased the pace of development and programme execution.

"Himachal suggests projects, and the Center approves funding for them. An important victory for a tiny state was the recent approval of a bulk medicine park for Himachal by the Centre. Himachal has benefited from a number of initiatives and programmes. When it comes to urban development, Shimla and Dharamsala have benefited from the Smart City Mission, while other cities can take use of AMRUT-I and AMRUT-II.

The political environment in Himachal Pradesh appears to be essentially bipolar so far, a tug-of-war between the two traditional archrivals, the Congress and the saffron party, despite the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) making significant efforts to gain ground before the elections.
Himachal Pradesh had historically been ruled by Congress, but in 1977, the Janata Party took control, and Shanta Kumar became the state's first non-Congress chief minister.
