PM Modi to hold discussions with beneficiaries on 6th anniversary of Digital India campaign

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi will hold discussions with the beneficiaries of the campaign through video conferencing on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the Digital India campaign on Thursday, July 1. Digital India has been one of the biggest success stories of New India. This helps in enabling services, bringing the Government closer to the people, promoting civic engagement, and empowering individuals.

Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar will also be present on the occasion. Digital India is a major program of the Government of India with a view to transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The initiative includes a plan to connect rural areas with a high-speed internet network. This includes developing secure and stable digital infrastructure, digitally distributing government services, and universal digital literacy.

On Monday, the Modi government allocated Rs 19,041 crore more to provide broadband internet connection facilities to all villages under the Bharatnet project. PM Narendra Modi had announced on August 15, 2020, that all villages would be connected to broadband in 1,000 days. On Monday, the Finance Minister informed that till May 31, Rs 42,068 crore was spent on connecting 1,56,223 Gram Panchayats with a broadband network. 19,041 crore to complete the remaining project. Under the Bharat Net project, the government initially launched all 2. The objective was to connect 52 lakh Gram Panchayats with high-speed broadband service.
