New Delhi: On the occasion of Guru Purnima on Wednesday, July 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent greetings and prayed that the Gurus' blessings would enable India to reach "newer heights."
"Happy Guru Purnima, everyone. This day is dedicated to showing our appreciation for all exemplary Gurus who have influenced, guided, and taught us a great deal about life. Our culture places a high value on knowledge and wisdom. May India ascends to greater heights with the guidance of our Gurus "Premier Modi tweeted.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings on the occasion saying that only a guru makes his disciple knowledgeable and characterful.
"In India, the Guru Shishya Parampara is a fundamental component of life. Only a guru may irrigate the nectar of knowledge in a disciple's life and transform him into a knowledgeable, moral, and competent person. Rahul Gandhi, a congressman, tweeted his best wishes on Guru Purnima. He said, the Guru takes his disciple from the darkness of ignorance to the path of light of knowledge, shows the path of renunciation and penance. Many greetings and best wishes on the holy festival of paying respect and gratitude to the gurus."
Guru Purnima, as per the Hindu calendar occurs in the month of Ashadha, and is observed on a full moon day (Purnima in Hindi). This year's celebration of the festival, also known as "Vyasa Purnima," falls on July 13. Notably, the day commemorates "Veda Vyasa's" birthday, who is credited with writing the epic Mahabharata.
