New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the nation today amid the second wave of corona virus. Referring to Corona at the beginning of his address, PM Modi said that this is the biggest epidemic in the last hundred years and is a tragedy. Such an epidemic was not seen or experienced by the modern world. With such a huge global epidemic, our country has fought together on many fronts. PM Modi said the demand for medical oxygen in India had increased unimaginably in the months of April and May during the Kend Wave. Never in the history of India has such a need for medical oxygen been felt. Work was done on a war footing to meet this need. All the machinery of the Government was at work.

PM Modi said that if you look at the history of the last 50-60 years, it would take decades for India to get the vaccine from abroad. Even when the vaccine was completed abroad, vaccination could not start in our country. Today, there are very few producing countries and vaccine manufacturing companies as compared to the demand for vaccines all over the world.  Imagine what would have happened in a vast country like India today if we had not had a vaccine made in India now? He said that ignoring every apprehension, India launched not one but two Made in India vaccines within 1 year. Our country, scientists, have shown that India is not lagging behind big countries. PM Modi said, 'Today, when I am talking to you, more than 23 crore vaccine doses have been given in the country'.

He said that the efforts and hard work that the country has been working hard for a long time is going to further increase the supply of vaccine in the coming days. Today, 7 companies are producing various types of vaccines in the country. The trial of three more vaccines is also going on in the advanced stage. Referring to the state governments, PM Modi said that in the midst of declining corona cases in the country, different suggestions also started coming before the Central Government, different demands started coming in. It was asked, "Why is the Government of India deciding everything?" Why are the State Governments not being exempted? On the other hand, someone said, "Why should the Central Government fix the age limit?" There were some voices as to why the vaccination of the elderly was taking place earlier. Various pressures were also created, it was also run as a campaign by a section of the media of the country.

PM Modi said that meanwhile, several state governments again asked that the vaccine be de-centralized and left to the states. A variety of voices arose. For example, why were Age Group made for vaccination? Starting from January 16 this year to the end of April, India's vaccination programme was mainly under the supervision of the Central Government. The country was moving forward on the path of free vaccination to all. The citizens of the country were also getting the vaccine done in compliance with discipline, when it came to their turn. PM Modi said that today it has been decided that the Government of India will also take responsibility for the 25 percent of the vaccination work that the States had. The system will be implemented in the next 2 weeks. In these two weeks, the Central and State Governments will come together to make necessary preparations as per the new guidelines. From Monday, June 21, the Government of India will provide free vaccine to the States for all citizens above the age of 18 years in every State of the country. The Government of India will purchase 75% of the total vaccine production from vaccine manufacturers on its own and give it free of cost to the State Governments. PM Modi said no state government in the country will have to spend single penny on the vaccine. So far, crores of people in the country have got free vaccine. Now, even those in the age group of 18 years will join it. The Government of India will provide free vaccine to all the countrymen.
