New Delhi: Amid the ongoing controversy over Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to the freedom fighter in a tweet on his death anniversary. UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Home Minister Amit Shah have also tweeted on the death anniversary of Veer Savarkar. Congress and other opposition parties have been criticizing Veer Savarkar.  

In his official tweet, PM Modi wrote, "Salutations to the great freedom fighter Veer Savarkar ji, the embodiment of renunciation and penance, on his death anniversary. His life dedicated to the service of the motherland will always be an inspiration for the countrymen. CM Yogi wrote in his tweet, "Humble tributes to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar ji, the greatest hero of the Indian independence movement, the great revolutionary, the great thinker, the immortal son of Maa Bharati, on his death anniversary! Your unforgettable contribution to the freedom struggle will continue to inspire you to serve the nation for ages.''

Home Minister Amit Shah has also paid tributes to Veer Savarkar. Shah wrote, "Savarkar ji was a revolutionary thinker, writer, poet, visionary statesman as well as a great social reformer. He struggled against untouchability, casteism and appeasement throughout his life. Their sacrifice, penance and struggle are reverential. On the death anniversary of such a great hero of independence, he bowed down at his feet.''
