National Capital rolls out the red carpet for ASEAN Leaders. PM Modi started his bilateral talks with ASEAN -leaders.

India is primed for a showcase event related to its rising global stature and efforts to extend and broaden ties with South East Asia under the Modi-led-govt's Act East policy. Several top leaders of ASEAN nations have already landed in the national capital and had bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Thursday, the India-ASEAN commemorative summit marking the silver jubilee of India's ties with the regional grouping will be held where progress on relations associated to the 3Cs of commerce, connectivity and culture as well as maritime security cooperation is expected in a landmark Asian gathering.

Wednesday saw the appearance of top ASEAN leaders on Indian soil to participate in the India-ASEAN commemorative summit marking 25 years of ties. The first to arrive at the national capital was Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyá»…n Xuân Phúc. He was received by Minister of State for Human Resource Development Satyapal Singh upon arrival at the airport.

Next to land was Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen who was welcomed by Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta. Philipino President Rodrigo Deterte and Myanmar State Councillor Aung San Su Kyi also landed in Delhi soon after. Prime Ministers of Singapore & Thailand as well as Brunei's Sultan also reached the national capital later in the evening. All the ASEAN leaders got a grand welcome at the airport with India's rich folklore and culture adding to the warmth zeal and enthusiasm.

The day also marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bilateral talks with these leaders. The PM first met his Vietnamese counterpart and held talks with on issues of mutual interest. Next he met the Philipino President and covered a wide range of subjects.
