PM Modi expresses grief over Surat tragedy, declares compensation for victims

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over Tuesday's tragic accident in Surat district of Gujarat. PM Modi has also announced compensation for the affected families. CM Vijay Rupani of Gujarat and CM Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan has also condoled the entire incident. 15 of the migrant labourers sleeping on the roadside died in the grip of a truck early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the incident took place near Kosamba village, about 60 km away from Surat. He said all the migrant labourers killed were from Rajasthan. Police said that the workers sleeping on the Kim-Mandvi route were mowed down by the truck. Out of these, 12 people died on the spot while three of the 8 injured succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. He said that the truck driver has been arrested. PM Modi has expressed grief over the incident and announced compensation for the affected families. PM Modi has announced Rs 2-2 lakh for the families of the deceased from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. 50-50 thousand rupees have been announced for the injured.

Earlier, PM Modi expressed grief over the incident and tweeted, "Surat's incident is going to hurt. My condolences to the families who lost their close in this incident. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in this incident."
