NEW DELHI: Presidents of political parties met on Wednesday on the issue of 'one country, one election' headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, the meeting had invited 40 parties in which 21 party presidents attended the meeting. Three parties have written their views on the issue. Prime Minister Modi will set up a committee to suggest the issue.

According to the information, Rajnath Singh said that most of the parties attending the meeting supported the issue. The CPI(M) has a different opinion, but they did not oppose it. On the other hand, BJD leader and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that his party supports "one country, one election". The meeting was attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Badal, BJD chief Naveen Patnaik, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, YSR's Jagan Mohan Reddy.

At the same time, none of the leaders of Congress, SP, Shiv Sena, BSP, DMK, TDP and Trinamool attended the meeting. West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee, BSP chief Mayawati had also refused to attend the meeting. Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and D Raja Modi attended the meeting but opposed the issue of "one country, one election".
