Bengaluru: Noted Kannada poet Siddalingaiah passed away on Friday due to corona. Siddhalingaiah, known as a Dalit poet, breathed his last at the age of 67. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. PM Modi has also expressed grief over the death of the poet. Siddhalingaiah, a Kannada poet, playwright and prominent face of the Dalit movement, had been battling the Covid-19 transition for more than a month.

Siddlingaiah's wife is still undergoing corona treatment. Siddlingaiah was found corona positive on May 2. He was admitted to the ICU for several days. He was admitted to Manipal Hospital on May 4. A hospital release said Siddhalingaiah was admitted with severe pneumonia and multiorgan failure and succumbed to illness at 3.45pm on June 11.

Let us tell you that Kannada poet Siddalingaiah was born in Magdi in Ramnagar district. Siddalingaiah is credited with starting the Dalit-Bandya movement in Kannada and introducing the style of Dalit writing in Kannada literature. He is known for his revolutionary poems like 'Yarige Banthu, Elige Banthu Nalvathathera Swatanthara'. The English translation of his autobiography Uru Kerry was a text for students of many universities.
